The story begins with an unexpected event during a concert in Shanghai in 2008. Lying on a stretcher, the third brother Deng Chang Fu recalls a memory from the early winter morning of 1953, when the fourth child of the Deng family — the girl — was born in a small village in Taiwan. From a young age, her exceptional talent for singing was evident, but her father, Deng Shu, firmly opposed her musical pursuits. After retiring from the army, Deng Shu began his humble career running a market stall.
The young girl could not understand the sadness and homesickness hidden in her father’s heart, yet she became his loyal helper, selling steamed buns by his side. After completing primary school, she failed to enter junior high. However, her remarkable singing voice soon found a new stage — winning a radio singing competition that led her to perform regularly on air.
Meanwhile, Deng Shu’s life at the market grew difficult. After clashing with hooligans, he was beaten and drawn into a legal dispute. Late one night, the worried parents realized their troubles stemmed from not having a permanent store. Listening quietly, the girl — driven by love for her family — signed a contract as a singer, took an advance payment, and used the money to help her father open a store. When Deng Shu discovered what she had done, he was deeply moved.
Eventually, the girl stepped onto the grand stage, dazzling audiences with her voice and earning endless praise — her name forever remembered as Teresa Teng, a legend who touched hearts across generations.
