Cheng Huan Ji (承欢记)
Cheng Huan Ji is a touching modern family and romance drama set in 1990s Shanghai. It follows a young woman’s emotional and professional growth as she navigates love, family pressure, and the journey toward self-realization.
Synopsis
Mai Cheng Huan grows up in an ordinary Shanghai family under the careful yet overbearing guidance of her mother, Liu Wan Yu. When her mother urges her to discuss marriage with her boyfriend, Xin Jia Liang, tensions quickly surface. The wealthy background of Xin’s family disrupts the balance of their once-equal relationship, while Liu Wan Yu’s constant interference further strains the bond, ultimately leading to their breakup.
Torn between filial piety and loyalty to herself, Mai Cheng Huan struggles to find her own voice. Gradually, she breaks free from her mother’s controlling influence and channels her energy into her career. Her determination and growth earn the recognition of her grandmother, who entrusts her with managing the family’s most prized hotel business.
Working alongside Yao Zhi Ming, a professional hotel manager and her grandmother’s grandson, Mai Cheng Huan embarks on a partnership built on respect and shared ambition. Through cooperation and mutual understanding, their professional bond deepens into personal affection.
As Yao Zhi Ming experiences the warmth and sincerity of the Mai family, he gradually develops feelings for Mai Cheng Huan. Meanwhile, she continues her transformation from a dutiful daughter living “beneath Cheng Huan’s knees” to a confident woman pursuing her own path. Her journey becomes a powerful story of growth, independence, and love.
